How one SAT Math tutor streamlined testing, cut 30 min per lesson, and boosted exam integrity with Quilgo

An Interview with Saten Harutyunyan, Founder of SAT with Sat

Quilgo: Tell us a bit about yourself and your educational center. What do you do at SAT with Sat?

Saten: I'm Saten Harutyunyan, specializing in preparing students for the SAT Math exam. I founded SAT with Sat as a dedicated educational center where I could provide students with the structure, tools, and motivation they need to succeed on this international exam. My goal is to help them get into top universities worldwide — and math, one of the most challenging parts of the SAT for many students, is where I focus all my energy.

Quilgo: What challenges did you face when the SAT went digital?

Saten:  It changed everything. Suddenly, paper-based resources were outdated — but there weren't many digital alternatives. That hit tutors hard. So, I created my digital prep materials and built a program from scratch. But I needed a platform to make the testing experience feel like the real exam — secure, timed, and seamless.

Quilgo: What problems did you need to solve when moving your program online?

Saten:  There were three significant challenges:

• Security — I wanted to protect my original tests and keep them exclusive to my students. Even though I planned to host the course on my own website, I needed to ensure that the materials were not shared or accessed by unauthorized users.
• Cheating — Since SAT prep is high-stakes, it was important to recreate a real exam setting and discourage cheating, such as pausing the test or getting help from others during the session.
• Flexibility — I had already built many of my tests on Google Forms, so I searched for a tool that could integrate easily, adding features like a timer, tracking, and more control over the testing environment.

Quilgo: How did Quilgo meet those needs? What stood out to you about the platform?

Saten:  Honestly, Quilgo exceeded my expectations. It didn't just solve my problems — it gave me extra tools I didn't even know I needed.

• First, I love that there are no limits on the number of tests I can create. That's crucial for my program, where students often take 50+ tests per month.
• Second, the cheating detection features are handy. I can see a student's trust score and even check if someone submitted a 100-question test in 16 minutes — which means something suspicious is happening.
• Third, it's made communication with parents much more transparent. Instead of just sharing a personal opinion, I now send them objective test summaries, which build trust and shows them exactly how their child is progressing.
• Finally, Quilgo gave me total control over each test. I can customize the timer, restrict access, allow overtime if needed, and make each test personalized and secure.

Quilgo: When did you start using Quilgo, and how has it changed your day-to-day work since then?

Saten:  I started using Quilgo on December 6th, 2022, and it's still one of the best decisions I've ever made. Since then, it's become the foundation of my teaching process—I use it daily, and every test my students take runs through Quilgo.

It has completely streamlined my workflow. Tasks that used to take 30 minutes or more — like checking whether a student followed the time limit or manually calculating scores — now happen automatically. That's 30 minutes saved per student per lesson, which is massive when you consider each session lasts 3 hours. That efficiency lets me focus on what I love most: teaching and supporting my students.

Quilgo: How has your overall testing experience changed since adopting Quilgo?

Saten:  Quilgo has genuinely elevated the way I run my program. Evaluating student performance is now much more streamlined — I can quickly access detailed insights and trust scores, which helps me track progress and address issues more effectively. But it's not just about functionality; Quilgo also helped me improve the branding and presentation of my tests. I can now customize each assessment with my brand elements so that every touchpoint with my students feels professional and consistent. It reinforces the quality of my program and builds trust from the first click.

Quilgo: What part of Quilgo has surprised or impressed you the most?

Saten:  Aside from the features, the customer support team truly sets Quilgo apart. I don't have an IT department, so I rely heavily on external help when something goes wrong.
